Clear and Present Danger Part Deux!
Wolf Creek Paintball is producing Clear and Present Danger II on March 28th and 29th, 2009 at its Star, NC field. Last years event was a blast! This was the first event I had been to with THREE sides. We had the DEA, The Columbian Army and the Columbian Drug Cartels. Deals were cut, promises were made, promises were broken and then begins the shooting. And the screaming. And the fun. (If Foolybear goes, get him to do his Columbian accent for you. It sounds like a dyslexic Russian!)
Based on Harrison Ford’s (and you know, Tom Clancy’s) movie, the game allows the three sides to battle it out for control of the Columbian drug trade. This year, Wolf Creek has built a huge CQB area (did someone say 20 rooms?) for that up close and personal touch. There’s been a lot of work done to the field so check it out.
The game is $45 to pre-register for the two day event, ($35 for just one day), and $55 if your register AFTER march 22nd. Regsitration includes Air and field fee. This is a field paint only event and paintwill run $45 and up. The game begins at 10:30am on the 28th and the field opens 8:30am. There will be (primitive) camping spaces available. Go to www.wolfcreekpaintball.com for more info or call 910-220-7184 and just ask questions. You can register online at www.ScenarioSupply.com.
No commentsGeneration Kill Update
You’ve already read that Team: Tango Alpha2 is producing the scenario “Generation Kill: A Bad Day in Baghdad”on March 7th at Command Decisions Wargames Center in Taylorsville, NC. (Be prepared to read it a LOT more because I am the King of Shameless Self Promotion!) We have been getting some questions from the commanders (and players) about what to expect. They suggested that I publicize the answers to give everyone a better understanding about the game. As Sgt. Colbert from the HBO miniseries “Generation Kill” would say “Don’t encourage him. He may never shut up.”
What is your overall vision of this game?
We just want everyone to walk away from this and go “that was very cool.” Whether it is 50 players or 200. We WANT to simulate the “unfairness”, or inequities, of real warto some degree, but still make it winnable and fun for everyone. In past scenarios, you hear people bitching about uneven numbers, glitches in comms, this problem or that… but as depicted in the movie, that’s how it really is in real life and we are building it into the game to try and make some of those things factors. This is where the commanders can help, by suggesting ideas and at the same time, reeling us in if one of our ideas makes the game too “real”. Even during the game. I know that in the past mil-sim, Ferg has thrown some real curve balls at us and that was what I personally enjoyed the most about the game. We are going to give you lots of missions and you will need to use your judgement and creativity about how to score points etc. We want this to be about thinking as much as shooting. Give us suggestions on how to do that better. Read more
So Many Games, So Little Money!
The Carolinas are definitely the place to be for scenario paintball players. There are so many games that our team has it’s head spinning trying to figure out which ones to go to and still not have to take out yet another mortgage on the house. Just the next few months are packed full. You can keep abreast (that means “up to date” gutter boy!) with the year’s latest games on our 2009 Event List. This will be a big year for paintball regardless what economists and my wife says!
Battle of the Bulge III - Jan 31
Black River is at again! FREE MARKERS to the winning team! Just like at G.I. Joe vs. Cobra last summer, BRsports is giving away FREE Hoodie sweatshirts with each Battle of the Bulge pre-registration and FREE paintball markers to the winning side on January 31 at Black River Paintball in Angier, NC. My only question is why we haven’t heard more about this game this year?
The epic battle continues on the battlegrounds at Black River Paintball on Jan 31st, 2009. Each year, players from all around converge on BR’s FARM field to fight it out in a what is known as WWII’s worst battles in terms of losses to American forces. With an increased battleground and new field modifications, this big game promises to deliver the action and adrenaline every player desires. In the past, we’ve allowed the owners of BR to duke it out, each commanding their respective Armies into battle. This year, we’re going to do it alittle differently. Commanding the German forces will be BR owner, Danny Denning. Leading the American team will be BR’s operations manager, Bryan Taylor. Read more
No commentsGeneration Kill: A Bad Day in Baghdad
Promising the thrill of a Big Game and the technical adventure of a mil-sim, Generation Kill: A Bad Day in Baghdad is based on the book Generation Kill by Evan Wright and the mini-series from the same book and will be the season opener for Command Decisions Wargame Center on March 7th.
The book and mini-series accurately portrays the true story of the First Recon units spearheading the advance into Baghdad in March of 2003. It shows the chaos, incompetence and savagery that the Marines had to overcome in order to take Sadam’s capital city.
Team Tango Alpha and Command Decisions are producing this scenario to create a different sort of paintball experience. The game will allow the mil-sim enthusiasts to partcicpate as U.S. Marines working their way toward Baghdad much as was portrayed in HBO mini-series. The Marines will be restricted to mil-sim-like Rules of Engagement and the Feyadeen Terrorists will have no such restrictions (just like in the real world). The good guys have to be good and the bad guys get to be bad.
