The Sky is Burning!

September 21st, 2008 | Category: Events

BurningSky092008_1971-01Operation: Burning Sky hosted by Boss Paintball demonstrated once again that Good can triumph over Evil, or at the very least, it can give it a wedgie. The one day mini-scenario pitted the Axis of Evil (Russia, Iran and Korea) against the U.S. and Allied forces in a simulated futuristic battle. In part one, Operation: Shining Shield, played in January, the Axis defeated the Allies, but payback is a what? Read more

Surprises: Up Close and Personal

September 15th, 2008 | Category: Paintball Fields, Reviews

PaintballKingdom_1763Occasionally you get surprised in paintball. Usually, they are nasty ones like the bush you just stepped around has more bad guys in it than a Quentin Tarrantino movie. Paintball Kingdom in Marshville, NC provided us with plenty of surprises and almost all of them were pleasant and welcomed. When you pull up to the site, the first thing you notice is that it’s someone’s driveway. You overlook the building to the left and focus on the rickety, long (huge) Chicken Coop in the back, thinking “What the hell have I gotten myself into?” Read more

Operation: Burning Sky, really this time!

September 10th, 2008 | Category: Events

hand-signals_6051223-011.jpgOn Saturday, Sept 20th, Boss Paintball in Locust, NC will host Operation Burning Sky, the sequel to their January’s Operation Shining Shield . No, I’m serious. They really are. I wouldn’t lie about that! Joking aside, (as if I could actually do that), Boss had canceled the event earlier this summer due to lack of early registration. The 26 hour event may have been canceled, but the field is reincarnating the World War III game as a one day mini-scenario for only $10! Read more

Splat Brothers’ Monte Cassino Sept 20th

September 06th, 2008 | Category: Events

Monte CassinoMonte Cassino - World War II: In the early winter of 1944 Allied bombers destroyed the historic Abbey founded on the hill over Monte Cassino, Italy. Two days after the bombing, German paratroopers poured into the ruins to defend it, making the Allied attacks even more difficult.

The largest land battle in Europe, Monte Cassino is to become the bitterest and bloodiest of the Western Allies’ struggles with the German Wehrmacht on any front of the Second World War. Read more

Court Martial? pt.1

September 01st, 2008 | Category: One Shots, Tactics & Strategy

shot-up-mask_3154135-021.jpgWhen is it acceptable to disobey a direct order from your team leader or scenario general? Is it ever acceptable? There are as many answers to this as there are paintballers. As a team commander and sometimes general, I can say that “Yes, it is okay to go against orders… in certain situations.” (That will come back to bite me in the ass later at practice, I can tell!) Let’s take a stroll down Hypothetical Lane and talk about disobeying direct orders in scenario paintball. Read more
