Please Stand By
The Peter Principle states (in general) that a good employee will eventually be promoted until he reaches a position where he is longer any good at his job. Technology has its own Peter Principle that states that any good technology will eventually be upgraded until it no longer works worth a damn. Or Microsoft buys it, and then breaks it and then raises the price. We have been using Flickr.com to host the photos here and it has been working great all year. So, of course they ‘upgraded’ it so that it doesn’t now. Actually, Yahoo bought them and then broke it. Certain browsers are having issues with the enlarged pictures (”Picture is currently unavailable”). Internet Explorer 7 seems to be okay. Firefox and Safari seem to be having some issues. This will affect only past posts here (which used to work fine). We’ve corrected the problem in future articles by simply stop using Flickr and we are hoping that Flickr will fix the bug so that all are past articles don’t have to be ‘upgraded’. Because that’s how I wanted to spend my winter! Sorry for the inconvenience. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.
Sucking The Venom Out!
BR Sports, formerly Black River Paintball, hosted “Valor vs. Venom” Saturday, August 16th, to a packed crowd of serious action junkies. The game pitted the forces of G.I. Joe versus the nefarious Cobra in the ongoing battle of Good vs. Evil. The field, located in Fayetteville (actually ON Fort Bragg property), saw 450+ players fight off the summer heat and the opposing army with everything they had… and then some. Read more
I Am Legend- The Battle for the Old Race
From Ferg at CDWC: You may be familiar with I Am Legend from the recent movie starring Will Smith, and some of you may know that movie was based upon an early 1970s movie, Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston. What you might not know is both were based upon a book by Richard Matheson from 1954. And that is what this game will be based on.
In the very near future, a plague has swept over the world. Its source is unknown, but its results are. The vast majority of humanity is dead, and it its place have settled two distinct societies- the humans who have developed a resistance to the germ and did not die or turn, and the infected, who over a period of a few years developed a relationship with the germ and have recovered to a degree. No comments“I Am Legend” at CDWC Sept 6th.
Command Decision’s Wargame Center in Taylorsville, NC has some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the MPP game scheduled there for Sept 20-21 (OP U-Go Burma) is being canceled by Ben Torricelli, MPP GAMES Producer, for personal reasons. The good new is… CDWC is replacing it with it’s own scenario, “I Am Legend” on Saturday Sept 6th, based on the 2007 Will Smith movie (or the 1995 book by Richard Matheson for those of you with a library card!)
The game will be a change of pace for CDWC players as it will NOT be your father’s mil-sim event, but a theme-based game focused on the fun aspects of paintball (versus the silly, old, non-fun military/historical combat stuff!) The price will be lower than most scenarios at $25 per player and paint will be available by the half case to make it easier on players pockets.
This is a great concept, but here’s my question… why not make this theme a night game closer to Halloween and just scare the bejeezus out of everybody? You strobe light lifesize posters of Ferg without a mask on the field and paintballers all over the Carolinas wet their camo jammies everytime their nightlight goes out for the next few months. (You do use a nightlight, right? Is that just me again? Damn!)
For more information, you can read up on it at CDWC’s forum or their web site or at Scenario Supply. You can also contact CDWC at (828) 320-5238 or info@scenariosupply.com.
1 commentFree Paintball Markers!
BR Sports (formerly Black River Sports) presents G.I. Joe vs. Cobra in a paintball match dubbed “Valor Vs. Venom” The event will be this Saturday, August 16th. The unique angle to this scenario is that everyone on the winning side will win a FREE US5 paintball marker by PCS! This marker is similar to the A5 and was originally designed by Tippman. But wait! there’s more! Along with the winning army winning a free marker, everyone that pre-registered will receive a FREE set of camos!
In one of the most original marketing ideas to come to paintball in a long time, Allen “Buddha” Faircloth is producing the game and has arranged with his vendors to provide free markers to go to the winning sides. So if there are 180 players playing for the G.I. Joe side and they win the event, 180 Joe players will each receive a free PCS paintball marker! Read more
No commentsCheap Hints & Tips to Improve Your Game
Any magazine can tell you how to spend the big bucks on the latest marker, but here at TangoAlpha2.com, we show you how to get the most out of your paintball experience and game with minimal expenditures. Okay, maybe that’s because we CAN’T afford the big buck markers, don’t have deep-pocketed corporate sponsors and are a bunch of miserly tightwads, but all that aside, we’re not bad people! Read more
No commentsShameless Self Promotion and A Good Stroking
This came in from Lee-Ann Ferguson [of Command Decisions Wargame Center/ ScenarioSupply.com/ Tactical Diversions and whatever other enterprise they have going] and was too cute and shamefully self promoting not put up on the blog. Lee-Ann (and oh yeah, Ferg) puts on some great games, loves to play and is a real sweetheart (Lee-Ann, not necessarily Ferg!)
No comments“Oh dear lord Paul - I just finished reading your article in PB2X on Khe Sahn. I seriously needed that laugh! What a fantastic job and we appreciate it SOOOO much. Thank you for putting the time and effort into writing that. I’m not sure if the field being now known as “meat grinder hills” will draw or detract but I don’t care, that was just so much fun to read.
