I Am Legend- The Battle for the Old Race

August 13th, 2008 | Category: Events

I am legend From Ferg at CDWC: You may be familiar with I Am Legend from the recent movie starring Will Smith, and some of you may know that movie was based upon an early 1970s movie, Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston. What you might not know is both were based upon a book by Richard Matheson from 1954. And that is what this game will be based on.

In the very near future, a plague has swept over the world. Its source is unknown, but its results are. The vast majority of humanity is dead, and it its place have settled two distinct societies- the humans who have developed a resistance to the germ and did not die or turn, and the infected, who over a period of a few years developed a relationship with the germ and have recovered to a degree. “I Am Legend” at CDWC Sept 6th.

August 11th, 2008 | Category: Events

I am Legend Game Command Decision’s Wargame Center in Taylorsville, NC has some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the MPP game scheduled there for Sept 20-21 (OP U-Go Burma) is being canceled by Ben Torricelli, MPP GAMES Producer, for personal reasons. The good new is… CDWC is replacing it with it’s own scenario, “I Am Legend” on Saturday Sept 6th, based on the 2007 Will Smith movie (or the 1995 book by Richard Matheson for those of you with a library card!)

The game will be a change of pace for CDWC players as it will NOT be your father’s mil-sim event, but a theme-based game focused on the fun aspects of paintball (versus the silly, old, non-fun military/historical combat stuff!) The price will be lower than most scenarios at $25 per player and paint will be available by the half case to make it easier on players pockets.

This is a great concept, but here’s my question… why not make this theme a night game closer to Halloween and just scare the bejeezus out of everybody? You strobe light lifesize posters of Ferg without a mask on the field and paintballers all over the Carolinas wet their camo jammies everytime their nightlight goes out for the next few months. (You do use a nightlight, right? Is that just me again? Damn!)

For more information, you can read up on it at CDWC’s forum or their web site or at Scenario Supply. You can also contact CDWC at (828) 320-5238 or info@scenariosupply.com.

Free Paintball Markers!

August 10th, 2008 | Category: Events, Paintball Fields

Valor vs. Venom BR Sports (formerly Black River Sports) presents G.I. Joe vs. Cobra in a paintball match dubbed “Valor Vs. Venom”  The event will be this Saturday, August 16th. The unique angle to this scenario is that everyone on the winning side will win a FREE US5 paintball marker by PCS! This marker is similar to the A5 and was originally designed by Tippman. But wait! there’s more! Along with the winning army winning a free marker, everyone that pre-registered will receive a FREE set of camos!

In one of the most original marketing ideas to come to paintball in a long time, Allen  “Buddha” Faircloth is producing the game and has arranged with his vendors to provide free markers to go to the winning sides. So if there are 180 players playing for the G.I. Joe side and they win the event, 180 Joe players will each receive a free PCS paintball marker! Read more

The Good, The Bad and the Off Key!

July 28th, 2008 | Category: Events, Reviews

Star Spangled MangledIt’s bad enough when the bad guys beat you, it worse when you have to sing the Star Spangled Banner in front of 120 people on a bet, it’s a frigging nightmare when the stupid bet was your idea in the first place! That’s exactly what happened at Wolf Creek’s Vietnam Heat: Operation Cedar Falls recently!

The producer of the game, Andrew “Ferg” Ferguson of Tactical Diversions (otherwise known as Command Decision’s Wargame Center), asked me if I would like to general at July 19th event and after checking with my team to make sure they were up for the challenge, we agreed.  I have to admit I had a couple of late nights worrying about the score possibly ending up at 2000 - 0. I had never generaled a scenario before, but was pretty sure we (the team) could handle it. That’s what I get for thinking! Read more

Army of Good InTentions

July 16th, 2008 | Category: Events, Reviews

Joseph If the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, the road to success is paved with planning, marketing and hard work. Saturday, July 28th saw the kick off (punt?) of X-treme Tactical Paintball and Carolina Panther’s DeAngelo Williams’ “Army of Ten“, a ten-man team woodsball tournament at the Waxhaw, NC field. The tournament had every INTENTION of being a phenomenal event for scenario paintball. Blend a world class athlete and NFL football star who loves to play paintball, mix in $5,000 out of his own pocket as prize money, toss in a naturally, wooded scenario paintball field, throw in a dash of testosterone and competition and you should have a helluva tournament, right?       Right?  Is this microphone on?  (Where does that road lead again?) Vietnam: Heat @ Wolf Creek July 19th

June 25th, 2008 | Category: Events

vietnam tunnel rats Tactical Diversions Productions (sometimes we just call him Ferg) and Wolf Creek Paintball in Star, NC presents Vietnam: Heat on Saturday July 19th.  Based on Operation: Cedar Falls in January 1967, when the U.S. and South Vietnamese forces attempted to root out Viet Cong base camps in the Iron Triangle. “The operation involved nearly 16,000 American and 14,000 South Vietnamese troops. The Viet Cong chose not to fight and melted away into a complex system of tunnels in the jungle. In response, tunnel rats were introduced to root them out. This was the first time they were used.” Read more

Mil-Sim Invitational Moves to Fulda Gap!

June 23rd, 2008 | Category: Events

Fulda Gap 2008 The Platoon Leader Mil-Sim Invitational at Command Decisions Warfames Center in Taylorsville, NC has changed the date from August 2nd to November 7th to kick off the Fulda Gap scenario. The Mil-Sim Invitational will be combined with Fulda Gap to allow out of state teams to be able to travel and attend both events.

Another reason for the move is the summer heat in North Carolina. Randy Brown from Wolf Creek, commonly “the Top Sergeant” at the Mil-Sim events and a field medic, said that at a scenario last August, they had as many as 10 players succumb to the heat. With gas prices as high as they are now, teams were having to pick which event they were going to budget for. As Ferg says, “Now they don’t have to choose OR bake.” Read more

June 15th, 2008 | Category: Events

Valor vs. Venom Black River Paintball is hosting Valor vs. Venom August 16th (Well, at least we THINK that’s the date) at their Fayetteville “Freedom Field“  Anyway, this scenario looks to be one of the most unusual I’ve ever heard of. For your $45 entry fee, you get your field fee, air, raffle entry,  AND an urban or woodland jerseyand pants AND the winning army gets a free paintball marker. Let me repeat that: Every player on the winning side gets a free marker!

Definitely not something you see every day!
