Burning Sky is Canceled!

Category: Events

Boss Paintball in Locust, NC has decided to cancel (June 21st’s) Operation: Burning Sky,the sequel to Operation: Shining Shield (played in January).  The two day/night ops event was canceled due to lack of registration according to owner, Clyde Hartsell.

The Sky Has Fallen!

Normally, by this time, he would have had over 100 registrations, but at this time, he only had about 29. One factor, in our opinion may have been that the event was “pre-registration” only. While the event was the 21-22nd, registration was to end Monday, June 16th, somewhat unusual for these types of events. Clyde had done this in order to control some of the last minute registration chaos of Shining Shield. While that may have looked good on paper, paintballers tend to wait till the last minute to sign up.

Our team was planning on signing up as a group on the  14th. We had already collected the money from members and were ready to sign up when we heard the news.

External marketing may have been another issue. There are so many events this summer that fields and producers need to flood the forums with news and updates to get the word of mouth advertising among the teams. Just because you produce it, does not mean they will come. Not with so many other choices to spend their money on. One of the most critical factors in the lack of participation may have been the summer heat, or that Oklahoma D-Day is going on right now, and the Battle at Blanding is coming soon, followed by Skirmish in PA. Whatever the reason, Burning Sky is cancelled.

Customer Appreciation Day

To show his appreciation to his customers, Boss Paintball is instead throwing Customer Appreciation Day where the field fee is waived for Saturday, June 21st, in lieu of Burning Sky, saving players $20. This includes all day air and your field fee. Players will still need to buy field paint.

New Lower Field Fees

Boss Paintball is also lowering their field fees permanently as of June 27th from $20 per day to $10 per day. This is an effort to capture the backyard paintballers who may think paintball is too expensive.

Scenario Saturdays

Starting in September, one Saturday per month at Boss Paintball will be a full fledge scenario (for the same $10 per day fee). Operation Burning Sky may be continued then over two days on successive weekends. Part three of the World War III storyline scenario may continue as late as November (originally scheduled for September.)

While we are extremely disappointed by not getting to play in Burning Sky (and a night op), we hope to see you out there Saturday, June 21st for Customer Appreciation Day and Free field Fees!
