Team: Tango Wants You!
Team: Tango Alpha2 is sponsoring a recruiting drive to join the “coolest non-team” in scenario painball. One of Charlotte’s best known, and least serious, paintball groups is looking to increase our membership so we can be one of the LARGEST and least serious non-teams!
If you are interested in doing more than just throwing paint at the opposition and want to use strategy, coordinated strikes, communication and laughter to utterly defeat the enemy while they are laughing and get your giggle on, Team: Tango is looking for you! Click here for more details…
Why a Recruiting Drive?
We are heading into the REAL paintball season, when it is cool enough to to play comfortably and it is being kicked off at the mega-event of Fulda Gap at Command Decisions on Nov. 7th.
As we play around the different area fields in North Carolina, we are seeing a lot of good players who want to get more involved in the sport, but aren’t hooked up with a team. We want them to know that they can have a home at Tango Alpha2. Right now, we have about 15 regular members on our team and are looking to double that number, so that on any given weekend, we can field a good size group of people. That is our SOLE reason for growing and having a team, to play paintball. We are not making ANY profit from this and all dues goes directly back into the team.
What the &%#$ is a “Non-Team”?
Team: Tango Alpha2 considers itself a “non-team” because we don’t bring the attitude, ego and ’seriousness’ other teams sometimes carry. Paintball is a game and while we play it to win, we are really more interested in having fun!
- We are not about taking ourselves so seriously that we can’t have fun. While we take any given game of paintball seriously we do not take ourselves seriously. Get a sense of humor or go home.
- We are not about you giving up any family weekend days working on a paintball field to earn your spot on the team
- We are not about telling you what to do, we are about asking your opinion.
- You don’t have to worry about whether the team shows a profit for a business, because we are completely nonprofit, and our sole purpose is to play paintball
- We are not about earning ranks or whether you qualify to be on an elite squad or not. We do have a command structure and we do have a rewards point system, but you don’t have to participate in either in order to make an A-team.
- We are not tied to any particular paintball field, so we can play other teams on a monthly basis and not get bored with the same scenarios or layouts
- We are not some rigid, paramilitary wannabes. We are the guys that have fun on the field playing a GAME!
- We are not about personal egos or team reputation in terms of wins, losses or scorecards. We care about our TEAM reputation as “Good Guys Who Are Fun to Play Paintball With.” Period.
- We are not seeking any corporate manufacturing sponsorship deals that involve controlling decisions of the team or our direction. Now, we’re not above bribe’s….
What’s involved with being on the Team?
We have a whole charter and rulebook, but it really boils down to this:
- Play paintball! - uh.. Duh! Commit to (on average) about twice a month
- Pay your annual dues - to keep us out of the collection business
- Play as a coordinated, well organized team - which requires some communication, discipline, and practice
- Have the right attitude and fit well with the team
- Have fun! - that’s pretty much it!
What’s this about ‘dues’?
We collect $10 a month (actually we collect $120 annually for you math wizards) and all of this money goes to the team. For this amount, we supply
- Each team member with a FREE Team Uniform (currently it is a heavy duty multicam style BDU)
- Team patch - with our logo and Velcro on the back
- Team armband - for when you don’t want to wear the uniform or want to wear a Ghilly suit, etc.
- Embroidered name - we will supply your callsign on a Velcro nameplate for the front pockets of your uniform
- Team Name Tape
- Team web site - for information about the team
- Online Team Forum - for staying in touch and discussing events, etc.
- Email Address - each member can get a free emailaccount if they like: YourName@TangoAlpha.com
- Team Banner
- Team Business Cards
- A fun, coordinated, well organized team! - the most important part is that you get to be a part of a great team with a good reputation that is also one of the fastest growing teams in the area.
FAQ’s
Q: I’m just getting started in paintball…
A: If you are relatively new to paintball, that’s okay. We can teach you tactics and skills. What we can’t teach you is how to have a cool personality. We care more that you have the right attitude than if you can hit a target at 100 yards.
Q: Do I need all the fancy equipment?
A: Absolutely not! We supply you with a military style uniform and we have more than enough equipment that we can loan you a marker (or you can rent from the field) until you decide which marker is your best buy.
Q: I’m already on a team, but am thinking of making a change.
A: No problem, our application and “try outs” are confidential until you say so. That way you can try out for Team: Tango and if it doesn’t work out, you can still play on your current team, no harm, no foul. If you have questions about this, you can contact me directly at Paul@TangoAlpha2.com.
Q: Do you just take anybody?
A: No, we don’t. As we said, we are not so concerned about how good a player you are (although, being a great player doesn’t suck!), we care about if you are fun to be around, have a good sense of humor and are commited to the game.
We DON’T want…
- Hard-core Rambo wannabes who think they are God’s gift to armed combat - there are other teams that are more your style.
- People who are easily offended with swearing, crude behavior, etc. Let’s face it, the Boy Scouts, we’re not! We are an adult team (at least by chronological age) and occasionally (alright, alot of the times) the jokes an humor get a bit bawdy (look it up). We are polite and respectful to others, but within the group, no one would confuse us for choir boys.
- People with no sense of humor or a thin skin, if you can’t take a joke, you won’t last ten minutes with us. This team is about having fun, period. This means being silly, sarcastic, and occasionally are jokes are even funny.
- Hotheads or immature - I personally fill our quota for that and we don’t need any more.
- People who, if playing regularly, will be burdened financially. We don’t want to put anyone into playing a game that will get them in a financial crunch and we are traveling more, playing more often and all this crap (markers, paint, field fees, travel, dues, etc) cost money. So you must be able to afford the sport without being a burden. You don’t need to be Thursten Howell the Third, just be able to afford to play and travel a couple of times a month without causing yourself any grief.
Q: What’s so special about Team: Tango Alpha?
A: We are one of the fastest growing teams in the Carolinas. We recently ‘generaled’ the Vietnam Heat scenario at Wolf Creek and have won Most Valuable Team at the last 2 out of 3 scenarios we played at, but truthfully, that stuff doesn’t mean a thing. What does, is we are fairly well respected in the paintball community for having a good positive attitude and making the game fun. We are well organized and well on our way to becoming one of the most effective paintball combat teams in the area! Most importantly of all, we recognize that this is just a game and WE MAKE IT FUN!
Q: What about girls (or women, if we are being politically correct)?
A: One of our best players is Penguin and I would match her against some of the best in the state any day (and I have!) Gender is not an issue, but being able to dish out smart alec remarks and give as good as you get from these other jokers on the team is a must! We also have wives and significant others who don’t want to play, video and photoshoot us, as well as just hang out.
Q: What are the age limits?
A: We are an adult team (or so we say) so to be on the regular team, you must be 18 years or older. We are starting a Jr. Team called the Wolverines for players 15 - 18. This junior membership has all the benefits of a regular membeship and plays right along side us in almost all events, but there are a few restrictions and we need to speak with your guardian before accepting a Junior Member. To learn more about the junior member rules and restrictions, your guardian can contact me at Paul@TangoAlpha2.com.
Q: So members just pay their dues and play paintball?
A: That’s it. And have fun. And make fun of the other guys.
Q: What’s this blog got to do with the team?
A: This blog partially sponsors the team and provides web space, banners, business cards and occasional articles such as this. While we sponsor Team: Tango Alpha2 the blog also profiles other teams and is an independent source of news and reviews that is separate from the team. The team is also talking with a few equipment manufacturers about limited sponsorships.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Just fill out our application online and we will phone your or email you directions to our next practice so you can get to know everyone andthey can meet you and see you in action. This is not so much a ’skills’ try-out as a personality try-out. We need to see if you fit the Tango mold (like a Jello mold, not bread mold.)
Team: Tango Alpha2 is inviting anyone who is interested in playing on a “slightly different” type of scenario paintball team, to come see what being a Tango is all about.
